E-Board Meeting 02/25

i. FYE Tsunami Fund
  1. MASA has donated $150 to the FYE Tsunami Fund
  2. FYE will make a link to MASA’s Nusantara website to help promote the event
  3. Akmal, Ija and John will attend a meeting on Monday at 8pm at the Union regarding the Tsunami Fund

ii. Nusantara

  1. Total net profit received from fundraising this week is $123 with a total cost of $80.
  2. Fundraising was organized by silat, props and fashion show
  3. Next week fundraising will be organized by dikir barat, sabah and Sarawak and Chinese dancers
  4. CG will not be able to come for Nusantara. There is a suggestion that future invitations should include a request for a representative.
  5. Nusantara received a suggestion to include a video to educate people about Malaysia.
  6. Some suggestions for subject are – vision 2020, MSC, Putrajaya and video of a multicultural nation
  7. Teasers are out and look good. Marketing will think about the banner next
  8. The West Hall has been booked for 3 rehersal dates: 18, 21, 24 March
  9. Comment on website: the non-html version should be more interesting and removed from the flash page to avoid confusion.

iii. AAW nightmarket

  1. 7 people have signed up for the booths
  2. Decision on the cut-off not decided – either take 10% of total profits or charge a flat rate of $5.
  3. Committee will need to help set up booth on Friday at 3pm
  4. Games Carnival will feature games like – baling selipar, tutup botol and bowling. The games coordinators will decide on the most suitable games
  5. There are 20 prizes for the games and winner will get a voucher to claim the prize from AAW.
  6. Wau decoration will made on Saturday at 10pm at Arep’s room. The Nusantara logo will be used as the design of the wau
  7. Arep needs to check inventory for items needed for Wau
  8. Budget for Asmaradana costumes for AAW and Nusantara will be from the union budget and also some from the Malay dance

i. Post-Mortem Gong Xi Raya

  1. Event went smoothly and was well-managed
  2. Budget balance: $32.50 (not taking into consideration expected claims)
  3. MASA recieved a cooler from Taroi in exchange for one year of club fees
  4. Tabung Tsunami collected $100++ - proceeds will be given to Cynthia Smith by Ach (in cash)
  5. Inventory – not updated yet because not all items taken from inventory has been returned. Items that are still missing are stationeries and trays.
  6. Did not invite Michelle this year

ii. Nusantara

  1. Fundraising - last Wednesday 12-3
  2. Menu: tuna sandwhich, tuna salad (not sold)
    Sales: $140.50
    Modal : $64.73
    Net: $57.77
  3. Next one is this Wedensday – by fashion show, silat, props
  4. Comments: need to change menu and change day/time because it is on Wednesday
  5. Target: $100 a week
  6. There should be some adertisements to advertise the fundrasing and also Nusantara 2005
  7. Treasurer still waiting for check from Dr. Zahratul
  8. Need to get forms to ask money (student charge)


iii. AAW Night Market

  1. Night market will be on March 4th @ the Mcneil room and the Asian night will be on March 5th (in the evening)
  2. Food won't be free so MASA can sell food and make some profits. This opportunity will be used to fundraise for Nusantara.
    a) A suggestion is to sell tables to MASA members so that they can sell their items and keep their own profits. MASA will oly make profits to table sales.
    b) suggested type of food to be sold: fingerfood
  3. The games booth will be organized by John and Arep have to set up a table game
    a) suggested games are: guli, bola getah, carrom
  4. AAW has requested that MASA makes 3 2D Wau as decorations.
  5. Items to make wau: Styrofoam and colored paper
  6. Cost from union: $97 (for arts and baju asmaradana)
    $39.60 bucks

iv. MidWest @ UIUC

  1. Dates: May 27th – 29th
  2. Website: midwestgames2005.com
  3. Details - Friday: registration, Saturday: opening Sunday: high-tea, closing, buffet- $5
  4. Registration deadline – April 17
  5. Mode of transportation has not been decided – drive or fly
  6. Accomodation – there won't be a midwest village we would have to find our own accomodation
  7. Ija will create a poll to see the number of people who are going to mid west
  8. Other things to think about in the future - midwest fundraising
